Bamboo Flooring Thickness

Bamboo flooring is widely introduced in the world, from China to Australia, from Europe to Africa, from Canada to Brazil. Everywhere is talking about bamboo because it is rapidly growing material. Bamboo flooring is going to pick up the market from laminate flooring and hardwood flooring because of its cost-effective price and environmentally advantage.

People are interested in bamboo flooring and want to know the best thickness for their house. For hardwood flooring, 18mm is the fixed thickness. For laminate flooring, 8mm is the most popular, and now 12mm is coming more. But bamboo flooring has various thickness rather than wood and laminate because of its versatility of raw material. Bamboo can be glued and milled into various thickness by the adjusting of pressing layers of bamboo strips.

Solid bamboo flooring has standard thickness - 15mm, in radiant heat bamboo, it is 10mm but this thickness is in very limit range. 15mm is the major. In some of factories, like from Jiangxi, Hunan, they introduced 18mm because they didn't cut well on bamboo strips. Bamboo has green skin and yellow culm. For well-quality bamboo flooring, it should not have green and yellow on bamboo strips. In this quality control, thickness of bamboo flooring is 15mm, not 18mm.

Engineered bamboo flooring has thickness of 14mm, 4mm wear layer of bamboo, 8mm of core and 2mm back layer. This is the only standard thickness in engineered bamboo and click bamboo and this thickness is best solution for the radiant heat through. Of course, 10mm also can be produced but it is non-standaard and will need a significant large quantity for the production.

Strand woven bamboo flooring has various thickness because of its unique manufacturing process. Strand woven bamboo is sliced from bamboo block which is pressed with bamboo strips. 14mm is the standard thickness, but we also can slice bamboo block into 12mm, 10mm flooring to fit the customers needs. Strand woven bamboo is very flexible on the thickness.

15mm is the standard and major thickness for home and residential places, 10mm is always for radiant heat. 14mm strand woven is for both residential and commercial area.
