Nail Down Installation Instruction

Bamboo flooring or hardwood flooring can be installed by 3 different methods, including nail-down with sub-floor, glue-down on underlay and floating. Any of them is suitable for bamboo and solid hardwood flooring.

Nail down installation is the oldest and most familiar flooring installation method, and it is a type of secure installation which directly attaches the floor to the subfloor material. The nail down system of installing hardwood flooring is usually done by a professional, onto any subfloor surface other than concrete.

Step 1: Inspect the quality before installation

Open cartons of bamboo flooring or wood flooring to check the flooring if all is right, no quality problems, like splitting, insect holes, finishing problem and milling problem. If flooring is ok, we can make nail down installation now.

Step 2: Locate the sub-floor on the ground

Need to locate the sub floor on the ground by cotton after soaking from ink, actually it is very simple, put the cotton on the ground, 2 sides are located, then pull it up and down, then a black line is done, this is the place to nail down the sub floor.

We lay out sub floors on the black line we just did on step 2

Step 4: Drill holes

We know the location of sub floor, so now we need drill the holes on the ground and pull in the wedges by nails. The nails are special flooring nails with 60mm length.

Step 5: Flooring nails and wedges

Step 6: Make sure sub floor is flat

We need check the sub floor is very flat, not up and down, otherwise, the flooring after installation will be like a wave; this will be a big problem. If there is out-of-flatness, we need use the wood worker's plane to plane the sub floor.

Step 7: Clean the sub floor

After plane, we need clean up the sub floor and thrown into some moth-proof powder and camphorwood pieces to prevent of insects.
Lay foam on the sub floor to avoid of moisture.

Step 8: Flooring installation

First, we lay flooring on the sub floor, use a small driller to make 3 holes on the tongue. Location of 3 holes is 2 sides and middle part.
Second, we pull the nails inside of flooring tongue and into the holes of sub floor as well. Use the hammer struck the floor to join closely, when the first nail struck with a hammer, then changing with the word screwdriver, hit the nail completely into the flooring.
