Strand Woven Bamboo Flooring Manufacturing Process

Strand woven bamboo flooring is most durable bamboo in the market and it is very suitable for commercial area and high traffic installation, like store, restaurant, shopping mall and office.

The percentage of bamboo in our strand woven is 90% and percentage of glue is 10% with the density being 1.2g/cm3 which is much higher than other strand woven bamboo suppliers.

Strand woven bamboo flooring has very similar process as solid bamboo flooring, especially the first beginning process for bamboo strips and carbonizing.

Raw Bamboo Treatment
  • Raw bamboo: Bamboo pole should be 6cm diameter and thickness of bamboo is 3mm. Moldy bamboo can't be used any more.
  • Cutting: For the good quality of raw bamboo, it will be cut into bamboo pieces. This cutting will make sure the bamboo pieces will have same width. For thickness, it will processed by another machine.

  • Pressing strips: Bamboo strips need be pressed to make it broken, but strips are not completely apart, it is still one piece, but broken in the middle, bamboo fiber is not broken. This process is for adhesive going inside of strips, after adhesive, it will be easier for pressing the block.
Carbonizing Bamboo
  • Carbonizing: As bamboo has sugar, protein, carbohydrates, starch, fat and wax more than wood, some of these organic substances is the best nutrition for insects and microorganisms (fungi). At the appropriate temperature and humidity conditions, bamboo can get moldy and insects.
  • Carbonize will remove all these organic substances under high temperature in a few hours. Carbonize can extend the life of bamboo and guarantee the quality.

Adhesive
  • Soaking with adhesive: The bamboo filaments are then soaked in our specially formulated adhesive to ensure than each strand is soaked and then it is left to allow the excess adhesive to drain back into the tank in which the strands have been dipped.

Pressing
  • Press: The pressure exerted is more than 2000 tons on a cold press. It takes about 15 minutes to press one log. One mold is one log. After pressing, the molds will be sent into the tunnel with steam inside to dry the mold. This can help the adhesive become stronger. After coming out of tunnel, mold will be removed off.

  • Strand woven log: These blocks are without mold anymore and the 4 sides are cut to be ready for next process.

Slicing into Flooring Board
  • Flooring board: Strand woven log can't be produced directly for Tongue and Groove, Sanding and Finishing. It need be sliced into flooring board size, about 1880 x 105 x 16mm.

Conditioning
  • Conditioning: We will send all sliced flooring boards into conditioning room for 2 weeks, this is a must in our production. Without conditioning, flooring could be bending or cupping after installation. We must control this important quality factor at the factory, not creating the quality problem to our customers.
Sanding and Coating
  • Sanding and coating: Sanding and coating are very similar with standard bamboo flooring. The only difference is the putty. Surface of strand woven has many small holes after slicing, so we need put putty on the surface to make it even, after putty, finishing can be coated on.
