• Construction Components

  The complex umbrella-like structure is made up of laminated bamboo materials combined with steel components, consisting of seven umbrella-like structures of varying sizes. The largest umbrella is 13 meters diameter, 9 meters high, while the smallest is 7 meters diameter, 5 meters high.

• Design Concept

  The design utilizes an optical illusion from the scale of the view outside of the pit, which magnifies the originally minimal space perception when you step beneath the umbrella, creating a sense of shelter akin to an ant passing through a thicket of mushrooms.

Design Highlights

• Composite Material Usage

  The combination of glued laminated bamboo and steel components is both aesthetically pleasing and functionally robust. Bamboo is known for its environmental sustainability, tensile strength, and lightweight properties, making it a choice material for innovative construction.

• Natural Integration

  The design draws inspiration from natural forms and integrates into the landscape. By invoking the scale illusion from outside the pit and magnifying the space under the umbrella, the design creates a unique spatial experience akin to shelter in nature.

• Structural Ingenuity

  To give an impression of lightness, the design employs a tension system consisting of rods, tie cables, and the laminated bamboo beams, allowing for a reduced cross-section of the bamboo while maintaining structural integrity.

• Scalability

  The design features different sizes of the umbrella, with varying diameters and heights, which contributes to the visual diversity and scalability of the structure.
